The Ebhayi football club took part in the under 16 Super Cup from 3-5 November 2023 in Cape Town. The inaugural under 16 super cup competition showcased some of the best coastal teams from Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Three of Alexander Road High School’s students, Damien Freeks, Rio Jonas and Urighan Barford made the trip to Cape Town as part of the Ebhayi tournament squad.

The PE Football Association team were the only team from outside the City of Cape Town to participate in this prestigious soccer event. Ebhayi played four matches, with 2 wins, a draw and a loss. This put them at the top of the log after the group stages. They overcame Rockafellas FC in their quarter-final match (2-0) to advance to the semi-finals on Sunday. Later in the day, Ebhayi faced a tough test against Stellenbosch University’s under 16 team and were beaten one goal to nil in the final minute of the game.

Young Alex midfielder, Damien Freeks is a star on the rise. He has already received a number of awards this year and has shown amazing promise as a footballer. Apart from the team’s excellent results in the tournament, three Ebhayi FC players were selected for the Super Cup tournament team. Damien Freeks from Alexander Road High School was included in the squad, along with Lydin Stewart and Sivuziwe Lonzi.
