Alexans excel at SASMT Music Competition

The Alex Big Band was invited to take part in the Clarendon Park Jazz Band Spectacular on Friday evening. It lived up to its name and was truly a spectacular event with various primary and high school big bands performing, as well as the acclaimed Rooftop Big Band! We are very proud of four Alexans who featured with The Rooftop Big Band: Mr David McCoy (trombone) is a core member of the band, Owentando Zantsi (trumpet) was invited to play with the band for this performance, and Adam Powell (piano) and Kalyn du Plessis (singing) featured as soloists.
The Alex clarinet ensemble, known as The Liquorice Allsorts, led by Mr Johan van den Berg, performed to a very appreciative audience at the Richmond Hill Street Music Festival .

Seven music learners entered the SASMT High Schools Music Competition. Marcus de Beer achieved second place in his category and Samkelisiwe Yoyo achieved third place in hers. Ms Elmarie van der Vyver was an adjudicator for this competition.
