7de Laan cast visit Alex

Alex had the privilege of being visited by the cast of the well-loved local series, 7de Laan, as part of the show's final road show after airing on SABC 2 for 23 years. There was a roar of excitement from the students upon meeting their TV stars. The cast delivered a wonderful talk on the ins and outs of working in the arts, pressed the need for more South African creatives telling local stories, and offered many words of encouragement to the drama students. The students were able to ask the cast questions about the industry, and this led to a highly informative session from which our students took many notes and words of advice. It was not all talking though, as the students had dance offs with the cast, sang songs together, and received autographs and prizes. Some courageous students even performed for the cast by doing improvisation, monologues and dances. It was a thoroughly entertaining and informative time and we are so grateful to have had this opportunity. A special mention must be made of Jacques de Silva, a former Alexan, who plays Denzil Jonker in the show. As an alumni, he encouraged the students to reach for their dreams and believe that they are valid and can come true. But, as Nobuhle Mahlasela, who plays Aggie in the show, says - not without giving 110%!
