Alex is known all over Port Elizabeth as one of the leading schools in music, drama and art. Our award-winning productions are recognised by the public and critics alike. Our many bands, choir and individual musicians showcase Alex's talent at the highest level. Our art department produces astonishing works of art in a variety of media.
Music has grown to form a vital part of our ethos. Our Stage, Concert and Wind Bands have won national acclaim for their exceptionally high standards of performance and the annual Destival Concert is a highlight on the local cultural scene.
The three bands provide a valuable opportunity for students to perform in the public. Emphasis is on a wide variety of musical styles and enjoyment. Our strings ensemble and symphony orchestra enhance further opportunities to develop musical talent.
Several students have been selected as members of the National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Some have furthered their careers overseas after being awarded prestigious bursaries.
