Alex tested at DF Malherbe derby

The Alex sports teams faced a tough challenge against DF Malherbe on Saturday. The two schools squared off in a derby that included boys’ and girls’ hockey, rugby and netball. The Alex 1st team hockey sides recorded their first wins of the season.

The Alex netball teams were very competitive. The under 19A match saw a dominant display from DF Malherbe as they beat their Alex counterparts by 31 – 20. Alex under 16A and under 14A sides got the upper hand in their matches as they beat DF Malherbe to the post with 14 – 13 and 18 – 16 wins respectively. DF Malherbe impressed in the rugby fixtures. Their 1st team handed Alex their second defeat of the season with a close 18 – 13 victory. The Alex 2nd team also suffered a loss (37 – 15), while their under 16 and under 14 sides fell to the same margin (15 – 0). It was left to the Alex under 15 side to raise the spirits as they edged their opponents by 31 – 22.
