RIP Legend Afrikaans teacher, Mr Piet Snyman

The Alex community is sad to acknowledge the passing of Mr Piet Snyman. He was a legend who will long be remembered for his “drie goue reëls”, his role as Head of Afrikaans and Head of Discipline at Alex, and for so much more…
Oom Piet, as he was often fondly called, spent his entire teaching career, from January 1970 to December 2008, at Alex.
A man of strong convictions, he had a wonderful sense of humour, and was a strict disciplinarian, but one with a heart of gold. Piet was a man of quality, hugely respected by all.
His was the kind of reputation that made old Alexans return year after year and ask to see Mr Snyman from the GM (Ground Middle) Corridor who used to make them “tel op!” during break times.
Over the span of his career, Piet was the head of tennis at Alex, but he also had the distinguished honour of filling the highest position a coach can achieve, Master Tennis coach of South Africa. Alex was fortunate to have a sportsman of his calibre to coach our rugby, athletics, tennis and squash teams.
Thank you for sharing a life of blessing with Alexans for 38 years, Meneer Snyman.
Hear the words of your Master:” Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The funeral celebrating Mr Snyman's life will be held at N.G. Gemeente Sionsrand N.G. Kerk (16 Branhope Road, Linton Grange) on Thursday, 29 August at 15:00.
