Alex Drama students get professional insight
The past two weeks have been filled with professional industry insight for our Drama students!
The students first attended the outstanding South African production of Curl Up & Dye at the Isithatha Theatre. The show was directed by Robin Williams and featured a powerful cast of incredible actresses, including Old Alexan Georgia Palmer. The students were blown away by the experience (especially seeing a play with a thrust stage!) and were treated to a highly valuable Q&A session after the play with Ms Williams and some of the cast. Discussions about the relevance of South Africa's past and its current future had the students on the edge of their seats, journals in hand scribbling away as the cast answered all their eager questions.
But the fun did not stop there! On Wednesday the Drama students and next years cast of The Wiz were awe-inspired by UK actor Guy van Onselen who generously offered an afternoon workshop on Shakespeare, monologue techniques and all things industry related! The students were actively engaged, put on the spot to perform a piece, and exposed to many new acting techniques! Guy initially visited the school with his father, who is an Old Alexan, at the Alex Founders Day, and we are so grateful that he offered up some of his valuable time in SA to inspire our students.
We remain extremely grateful to the wonderful theatre community of Gqeberha for providing important learning experiences for our students, and to our Old Alexan's and their families for visiting us and sharing their passions with the school.
