Alex Mathematicians Vie for Relay Titles

Image 1

Every year, Alexander Road High School hosts the Inter-Schools Maths Relay League. The league consists of six rounds of Mathematics competitions held during the first three terms of the year. Up to 450 learners from 11 Port Elizabeth Senior schools meet twice a term on a Friday afternoon. The learners compete, in teams of up to four, to solve thought-provoking Maths problems. Much fun and learning takes place and, thanks to sponsorship from SPAR, chocolate prizes and vouchers are awarded to the top three senior and junior teams.

In the first round, the Alexan teams took first and second place in the senior division and third place in the junior division. St Dominic’s Priory took top junior spot and came third in the senior division. A team from Pearson took second place in the junior competition. We look forward to another year of mathematical magic.
